The Spirit Goes Where it Will

The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.
John 3:8

This has been a year of expectations dashed, of the unexpected continually making itself known. Even though I have pretty much been in one place, there have been so many days that I had no idea what was going to happen next. Fires, floods and viruses; police murders and demonstrations, insurrections and violence. Sometimes it does seem the world, as we know it, is coming to an end.

Yet, God continues to be Present in the midst of all the turmoil we have known this year. The Spirit blows us where it chooses, and we need to stay open to its unpredictable promptings. That is difficult; we want to see a clear road ahead, but most of the time we are lucky if we know even the next step. As a human being who feels more comfortable with predictability, how do I let go enough to hear and follow the call of Spirit?

-Carol Potter

Let us pray…

Open my ears to hear your call, and give me courage to follow you, wherever you lead, knowing that you are leading me toward what will most meet the longings of my heart. Amen.
