Devotion for Monday March 30, The Fifth Week in Lent

Acts 4:31 | And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.

Today I show you a pot I threw for you on the pottery wheel. It’s still wet, and I have always wished pots could look wet forever, like they were alive and almost still spinning. Pottery is captivating. There is a great Taoist quote attributed to Laozi about this very thing: “A vessel is formed from a lump of clay with care, however, it is the empty space within the vessel that makes it useful.”

Isn’t that true? It is the questions we have, the curiosity we possess, the loss we endure, which makes our hunger for God insatiable.

We know this because the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in the empty spaces, the vacuum, the area of un-knowing.

And our “boldness” to which our scripture from Acts attests, comes from our absolute trust, that God will always, does always, can be 100% counted on to fill the hurting places in our hearts (and this world) with love. We are bold because our Lord fills our cup!

PRAYER
Oh my Jesus, fill me now.
Shake my house and make me bold to count on you.
Let me be a bright, new, gleaming vessel for your love.
