Epiphany

When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy.
On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother;
and they knelt down and paid him homage.
Matthew 2:11

What could it mean to meet God, the real living God, face to face?  So much easier to think of the impersonal God, the undefined, mysterious God.  The God of brilliant philosophers and thoughtful intellectuals. But God tugs at us.  Jesus knocks at our door. Not an idea, but a breathing, living baby.

And we, like children, playing at “burglar” suddenly hear a footstep and ask “Is someone actually here?”  What is this is true?  What if God was actually born on earth.

Yes. Yes.  He was.  And we know this because the God-Spirit inside our heart leaps with the same joy the Magi felt when they were in his presence.

He is with you today. He is also with those you love.  He is even with those you do not love, caring for every living sole

Let us pray…

O God, by the leading of a star you manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know you now by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
