You and I Are the Artisan of Our Lives

“My soul glorifies the Lord
And my spirit rejoices in God
My Savior,
For he has been mindful
Of the humble state of his
Servant.”

I recently read a story* about a young priest who climbed to the top of a bell tower, up a narrow winding staircase. At the top he found intricate and beautiful carvings which only the pigeons could see.

In this time of pandemic when so many suffer; when families may not meet, and when we cannot gather to worship together, I hear some say “why decorate? No one is coming.” Then, I think of the image of the decorated bell tower. “For you. For the coming of the Christ child, You and I are the artisan of our lives.”

The beauty of every intricate and magnificent heart, ready to greet the Savior. And the babe who will come despite all the difficulties of Advent 2020.

“I the artisan, climb whatever symbolic steep and narrow steps define my life this Christmas with paintbrush in hand and joy in my heart to celebrate that no pandemic can stop his coming or the light he brings into the world.”

Let us Pray…

Oh gracious God, prepare my heart for your coming. Bring Joy to me and let me know that nothing will stop the babe in the manger from entering every home and heart. Amen.
