A New Beginning

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
-John 1:1

There is so much that accompanies Christmas Eve. You might recall an excitement and hope of what might be under the tree in the morning. There is a feeling of cheer and joy just around the corner, and yet almost as quickly as the gifts are unwrapped, it seems to vanish.
We are so quick to forget that although Christmas is a very special day, it’s truly only the beginning. I don’t only mean that Christmas is a twelve day season, but that it is of course only the beginning of the story of Christ.

One aspect of being an Episcopalian that I am especially proud of, is that we seek to remember that Christ didn’t just come to be born and then die. Instead Jesus came to live, to experience, to reveal God, to teach, and unite us in bonds of love. Christ’s life then calls us to live out grace, justice, and mercy. So as we begin this Christmas season, let us remember it is only the beginning. Let it not be simply twelve days of cheer and giving, but the beginning of a life renewed in the hope of the greatest gift of all, Jesus.

-Reverend Michael Sahdev

Let us pray…

Almighty God, you have given your only-begotten Son to take our nature upon him, and to be born of a virgin: Grant that we, who have been born again and made your children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by your Holy Spirit; through our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom with you and the same Spirit be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.
