Devotion for Saturday, March 28, The Fourth Week in Lent
Matthew 1:20-21 | But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”
Do you have an Angel? Have you ever seen one?
I was on the phone with a dear friend recently and she said, “I have never told you this before, but we (referring to her family) all have Angels.”
I wrote a bit before about the Angel-nurse I had in the ICU. Even the way he removed my socks helped me to breath.
I think there are all sorts of Angels, some people we can see and some who come in dreams. Some who come at points of great crisis and some who, sent by the Holy Spirit, inspire, warn and inform at exactly the right time.
I watched a little boy’s face during a conference. I was on the stage as a presenter, and he was in the audience. His face brightened and seemed to be filled with joy and surprise. I asked him afterward, “What were you looking at?” He seemed shy, uncomfortable.
“It’s OK.” I said, “You can tell me.”
He said quietly, “It’s my angel, he came to visit me.”
“How long have you known this angel?” I asked.
“Forever” he said.
I love most when Angels tell us to be bold. To risk. To, as the scripture says, “Take Mary home as your wife.” Forget the rules and the judgement—just do the loving thing.
PRAYER
Oh God, thank you for the Angels.
Thank you for the ways in which
we are touched by the Holy Spirit.
Thank you that we are not alone.
