Where is Jesus?

He said to them, “Why were you searching for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?
-Luke 2:49

I love the account of the young Jesus left in the temple. This scripture for the day reads eerily similar to that of the Home Alone movie franchise. Macaulay Culkin comparisons aside, this verse leads us to ask, if we were to take the roles of Jesus’ parents, where would he be found today? For so many of us it is obvious—Christ remains at All Saints’, in the Eucharist, and in our services of worship. While that truth is beautiful, our inability to access these places have made this time of pandemic all the more difficult. If you have struggled to see, find, and experience God, I hope that you might look with fresh eyes beyond the walls of the Church. Just as Christ made clear the Temple was not where God was contained in his day, so too do we know Christ to be present in those in need, in the beauty of nature, and perhaps above all else, in the Temple that is our hearts. When we feel like we must search and find Christ, let us all remember the words of today’s verse, and the truth that we have become a place in which Christ will always dwell.

Let us pray…

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being with us. Help us in times of confusion, fear, and loss, to remember always where to find you. May we see, feel and know your love each and everyday. Amen
