Devotion for Thursday, March 26, The Fourth Week in Lent
John 14:1 | Do not let your hearts be troubled, believe in God, believe also in me.
I saw a photo once of a man, lying on a mat. He was holding up an old X-ray film for a missionary to see. The film had bends in it, because it was so worn. The caption read: “This dying man, was showing our chaplain his old X-ray in hopes he could get some help”. So sad. So alarming. The tragedy of asking for help with inadequate information and from a barren source.
I think of Johnny Matthis and Deniece Williams singing "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late."
It’s a scary thing to reach out and ask for help. Especially when you might be like that poor dying man. And for some folks, their mouths have been silenced… hopelessness has led to voicelessness.
Jesus will not have it so. When we lay before Jesus our needs—when we cry with our whole hearts to him, he is sure to save. Trust me, I know this right now because he was there for me in my hour of need. I had no idea what his plan was, what he was intending. But he was holding my hand and I was ready to go.
PRAYER
Dear Jesus, lover of my soul.
Let me place my hand in your hand.
Save me from relying on the things that have no power.
Let me rest in your loving arms.
