Devotion for Monday, March 23, The Fourth Week in Lent

John 1:46 | “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.
“Come and see,” said Philip.

“Can anything good come from a pandemic?”

Is anyone secretly finding that this quarantine is helping you to look at old things in a new way? A terrible hardship and yet a blessing for some… Even being able to speak openly about fear and inequality, that’s a blessing. Hearing from friends, that’s a blessing. Having time to “lie in”, cook…

Why did the writers of the New Testament include Nathaniel’s insult about Nazareth? Why not just drop it? You can bet Nathaniel wasn’t proud he had said it. For two reasons: One, because that’s what Nathaniel actually said, and two, because we often pre-judge the source of our greatest blessings. “The whole world stands on tip-toe just to see the Son of Man come into his own.”

I am standing on tip-toe to see Jesus’ marvelous handiwork in the wreck of a world we have closing in on us. I am standing on tip-toe to see what he is doing in my life. In yours?

PRAYER
Ok Lord. This is crazy-time. Show me your path.
The brightness of your glory.
The magic of your unpredictable blessings!
