Devotion for The Third Sunday in Lent, March 15

Psalm 18:19 | He brought me out into a broad place;
he rescued me, because he delighted in me.

It is Sunday and we are not physically together.

It reminds me of dropping my son at childcare when he was 2 1/2. I thought my heart would break.

Now, sitting in this hospital room, I received a beautiful text from an All Saints' member ...

“I went by Sweetland Hall this morning… It struck me how majestic All Saints’ looked in its silence. I thought of the last (many) years of my life and All Saints’ has played such a prominent role during those years. I take All Saints’ presence in my life for granted. But this morning in the rain, all the memories and people came rushing back to me.

I have a feeling this whole ordeal will impact us greater than we imagine, pass by quicker than we thought, and change us in small ways which we may not notice for a while.

I have to say, the spirit of civic mindedness and solidarity is alive and well. Panic is certainly a factor in our behavior but we are the only country in the world to self-quarantine without the government ordering us to do so. Institutions and individuals have stepped up and changed their behavior with amazing rapidity. We outpaced the government and that is not a bad thing in my book. Yes, there are the toilet paper hoarders (what is that about?) and the madness of crowds, but everyone is working on this together. Anyone who says we can’t get along and accomplish something together as a country is dead wrong. I think this is such a spiritual opportunity.”

A spiritual opportunity. A new way of seeing.

PRAYER
Thank you Lord that every good and perfect gift
comes from above, comes from you.
Thank you for Sunday, your day of resurrection.
Open our eyes to see you living amongst us...even now.
In Christ’s name we pray.
