Devotion for Friday, March 6, The First Week in Lent

Luke 12:32-59 | Fear not, little flock;
for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

There is much fear about these days, and “fear attracts” as they say. Walking down dark streets alone at night, one learns to walk with a purpose. Head held up high, eyes forward with the expression, “I know where I am going and I am almost there.” From The Sound of Music, “Whenever I feel afraid, I hold my head up high, and whistle a happy tune, so no one knows that I am afraid!” This may work for the short-run, but it is not our Christian remedy.

Jesus tells us that he is our Good Shepherd, and that wherever we are, and however we may feel, he is there with us with a safe place to land. We finally have only one thing to fear, and that is not remembering how very much he loves us. As the old hymn says, “On Christ the solid Rock, I stand. All other ground is sinking sand.”

PRAYER
Oh Lord, let me be safe in your arms,
in the sure foundation of your Word.
