Light and Darkness, Sin and Forgiveness
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
John 1:3-10
Lent is literally and metaphorically a time of darkness. During the year's darkest season, we are asked to confront the darkness within and around us. This is scary! But then we are reminded that the God we love is all light. "In him there is no darkness at all." Though the darkness of night and of sin is very real, all that we might fear within the darkness is not real. It has no hold on us. Our God is all warmth and all love. Our God can penetrate the darkest voids. We are forgiven, as children of the light who are called to seek and follow Jesus. And so, how sweet and wonderful it is when we emerge together on Easter, completely free from the bonds of sin and darkness.

Let us pray…
I want to walk as a child of the light. I want to follow Jesus. God set the stars to give light to the world. The star of my life is Jesus. In him there is no darkness at all. The night and the day are both alike. The Lamb is the light of the City of God. Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus. Amen. -Kathleen Thomerson
